No non-Fox News interview with President Obama would be complete without a Jay Z question. Jimmy Kimmel filed his quota recently by asking the POTUS to verify Jay and Kanye’s claims of receiving texts and home phone calls from him.

While he playfully shot down both claims, we know there’s been a bromance budding between Hov and President Obama since his 2008 run. Check these 12 times Jay Z & Obama shouted out each other for further proof.

Jay Z Makes Obama’s Playlist

Things began innocuously enough with a reporter asking Senator Obama what was on his iPod. In between tasteful but safe choices like Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, Obama shouted out H to the Izzo, and it began.

Hello, Brother President

While he was careful not to formally tell his audience whom they should vote for, Jay Z made a plea for all in attendance to use the power of the ballot. He grinned as an image of Obama was flashed and said, “I can’t wait until November 5 and I’m going to say: ‘Hello, Brother President’.”

Obama Brushes Dirt Off His Shoulders

April of 2008 brought a great moment in Hip-Hop history. One day after Hillary Clinton and George Stephanopoulos threw some serious shade his way, the man who would soon be POTUS brushed that dirt off his shoulders.

“My President (Remix)”

“Rosa Parks sat so Martin Luther could walk. Martin Luther walked so Barack Obama could run. Barack Obama ran so all the children could fly.”

The 2013 Inauguration

It can’t be a coincidence that Beyonce sang “At Last” during Barack and Michelle Obama’s first dance at the Inaugural Ball. Later on, Jay reportedly performed at the campaign’s official staff party.

“What We Talkin’ About”

When this song dropped in 2009, ‘Hov called himself “a small part of the reason the President is black.” Looking at their budding bromance in hindsight, maybe Jay Z didn’t give himself enough credit.

Obama References The Cuba Trip

Since US/Cuba relations are apparently opening up, this is a moot point. But it’s hard to remember another sitting president having to devote a significant chunk of his press conference to the comings and goings of a rapper and his pop star wife.

“Open Letter”

There was definitely some federal stunting here, as Jay casually dropped a reference to getting white house clearance and joked about Obama worrying about getting impeached over the infamous trip to Cuba.

September 2011 Fundraiser

To further show the bond between the Carter Administration and the Obama Administration, Jay Z and Beyonce hosted a $40,000 per plate fundraising dinner on September 11 at the 40/40 Club in Manhattan.

President Obama’s PSA

During his September 2012 performance at the Made In America Festival, Jay flexed his White House connection again by playing a special pre-recorded message from President Obama right before going into “PSA.”

Another epic reference courtesy of the POTUS: “I’ve got 99 problems, and now Jay Z is one.”

Selma 50

As both Larry Wilmore and Bloomberg accurately pointed out, The Commander In Chief got quasi self-referential in front of the Edmund Pettus bridge by quoting Jay’s “My President” during the 50-year anniversary of “Bloody Sunday.”
