Yesterday (April 10) in New York City, former Roc-a-fella rapper Wais P the Pimp was arrested for promotion prostitution. That stage name will make a potential “not guilty” plea the apex of irony.

Reports the New York Daily News:

A rapper known as Wais P the Pimp, who contributed to Jay-Z tracks in the 90s, was charged with promoting prostitution on Thursday, police said.

Malcolm Byer, 41, of Teaneck, N.J., who is better known by his rap alias, was arrested on Wednesday after appearing in Manhattan Supreme Court on a DWI charges, law enforcement sources said.

Byer grew up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn and was part of the New York City hip hop scene in the 1990s, according to a bio on his Facebook page.

The rapper dubbed his musical style as “pimp hop” and has said it explores the pimp lifestyle. He has released several tracks in recent years.

You might recall Wais was part of group the Rhanjaj, who had a stint on Roc-a-fella Records and appeared on Jay Z’s Swizz Beatz produced “If I Should Die” off the Vol. 2… Hard Knock Life album.

Lately, he’s been on some “pimp hop” ish that is clearly going to make his defense a struggle.

Wais is being held without bail. His arrest part of an operation called “Bright Lights, Big City” that reportedly uses wire taps and bank records to make their cases.

According to police, Byer has three previous DWI arrests for DWI and his latest charges include “running a prostitution” enterprise according to court docs.
