The transgender community remains under represented in Hollywood, music, and and all corners of popular culture. Fortunately, accomplishments cannot be denied, which has become increasingly apparent over the last five years (and more recently, because of people like Aydian Dowling.)

Laverne Cox

Famous for her role in Netflix’s hit series Orange Is the New Black, Cox has quickly become a face in Tinsel Town. She the first transgender actress to be nominated for an Emmy, as well as the first transgender person to cover Time Magazine.

Alexis Arquette

Arquette — sister of Patricia, David and Rosanna — shared her transition with the world via the 2007 film Alexis Arquette: She’s My Brother.

Carmen Carrera

You may recognize Carrera from RuPaul’s Drag Race. At the time, she hadn’t transitioned. Now she’s a model who regularly gets work.

Lana Wachowski

Before transitioning, Wachowski (birth name Laurence, known to most as “Larry”) gained notoriety as one-half of The Wachowski Brothers, who created The Matrix film series. Now going by The Wachowskis, she and her brother Andy continue to find success in Hollywood.

Balian Buschbaum

Born Yvonne Buschbaum, Balian Buschbaum underwent hormone therapy and gender reassignment surgery in 2008. Before transitioning, Buschbaum was a champion German pole vaulter.
