Nolan Smith, a former standout basketball player for Duke University‘s 2010 NCAA Championship team, says that police in North Carolina pulled him over and drew a gun on him. Smith also claims that after drawing the weapon, the police asked Smith for an autograph.

According to local outlets The News & Observer and ABC affiliate WTVD, Smith, 26, took to Twitter to broadcast the early  Thursday morning (May 28). In a series of tweets, Smith shared his side of the now-confirmed traffic stop that occurred shortly before midnight on Wednesday (May 27). In a series of emotionally charged posts, Smith seemed to be somewhat rattled by the experience.

“The encounter I had with the police tonight…… Guns drawn, yelling, no questions asked… Smh… What’s really going on?” Smith tweeted at 12:46 a.m Thursday. With the anger still fresh from the traffic stop encounter, Smith continued to rail on.

“Yes I have 4% Tint… But I rolled the windows down right away… And showed them I was harmless.. They didn’t care. Guns were out… Wow,” continued Smith.

Smith goes on to say that the men relaxed after a while and proceeded to ask the former ACC Player Of The Year for an autograph, which he must have balked at considering the tone of the tweets. Durham police confirmed that they pulled over Smith’s Chevrolet Tahoe after tailing him for blocks because of his dark tints. The officer claimed he drew his weapon as a safety precaution.

Smith, a former draft pick of the Portland Trailblazers and currently a player in the NBDL, was in town to participate in a basketball camp. Smith has yet to file formal charges against the Durham Police Department.
