The last time there was a Golden State Warriors NBA Championship, Gerald Ford was in the midst of a Watergate-appointed presidency, KC and the Sunshine Band’s “That’s the Way (I Like It)” was a Billboard staple and the culture of Hip-Hop was still an idea that DJ Kool Herc was tinkering with at the time.

So you can understand the level of excitement Bay Area rappers had late last night when their Oakland b-ball club finally broke the 40-year drought after besting the Cleveland Cavaliers in the 2015 NBA Finals, four games to two.

Although it took place in the Ohio city’s Quicken Loans arena, young Riley and the rest of the family were there to congratulate the reigning MVP Stephen Curry and the Finals MVP Andre Iguodala.

Back home in Oaktown, an assortment of artists ranging from the older generation in E-40 to the new-school cats like G-Eazy were lighting up social media with celebration. While many other rappers such as Fabolous and Meek Mill sent out congratulatory messages, this post is all about the Bay Area because they have been waiting for what may feel like an eternity for diehard sports fans.
