DJ Mustard could possibly be a living legend, which may a hard concept to swallow, seeing that he’s only on the second summer of the ten he’s promised us.
At just 25-years-old, the California-born producer made history at the 2015 BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards when he became the first artist to win both Producer of the Year and Songwriter of the Year in the same night. That’s not to mention the twelve solo awards he nabbed which even left BMI Icon Award recipient Nile Rodgers in awe.
The accolades came directly after he called out the producers of Iggy Azalea’s “Fancy” and Jidenna’s “Classic Man” for engaging in legal battles with one another when they couldn’t lay claim to the West Coast sound.
To truly highlight his influence, peep these songs you thought were produced by DJ Mustard but actually don’t hold that distinction.
Adrian Marcel ft. Sage The Gemini – “2 AM”
Producer: Chrishan
If Mustard would have claimed ghostcredit for this jam simply by adding a “Mustard on the beat, hoe” tag, no investigative sound junkie would have batted an eyelash. Meanwhile, Chrishan hasn’t charted a song since.

Tinashe ft. Iggy Azalea – “All Hands On Deck (Remix)”
Producer: Stargate & Cashmere Cat
Tinashe called on Mustard for her breakout hit “2 On” but switched producers but kept the same sound for one of the follow-up singles. The remix employed her would-be Great Escape Tour headliner, Iggy Azalea but the whole thing was called off before it got off the ground.
Chris Brown ft. Lil Wayne & Tyga – “Loyal”
Producer: Nic Nac
This Bay Area producer has been putting in work for some time but he got his first taste of fame when he scored Breezy’s instant classic using a sound that worked out the time (all of 2014). He also struck gold again when he produced the Fan of a Fan lead-off single, “Ayo” which also sounds like its dripping in Pu$haz Ink.
Yo Gotti ft. Jeezy & YG – “Act Right”
Producer: P-Lo
Despite the strong West Coast connotation and Jeezy and YG co-sign, this joint wasn’t produced by Mustard, but rather HBK mainstay P-Lo.
Natalie La Rose ft. Jeremih – “Somebody”
Producer: The Futuristics & Cook Classics
Mustard has a gang of R&B hits under his belt but this isn’t one of them. The platinum-selling “Don’t Tell ‘Em” was a creation of Dijuan’s, however.
Migos – “Fight Night”
Producer: Stack Boy Twan
Is it a coincidence that “Fight Night” (peaking in the summer of 2014) is the Atlanta trio’s biggest single to date?
Bobby Brackins ft. Jeremih & Zendaya – “My Jam”
Producer: Nic Nac
The swanky breakout single from Brackins gets accredited to Mustard more often than not but it was Nic Nac putting on for The Bay.
Pia Mia ft. G-Eazy – “F*ck With You (FWU)”
Producer: Nic Nac
Kylie Jenner’s BFF and Nic Nac are an item so the degrees of separation to get the likes of Chris Brown, Tyga and G-Eazy on a track are a small order.
Rich Homie Quan – “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh)”
Producer: Nitti Beatz & DJ Spinz
It’s crazy that when Nitti Beatz first hit the national scene with Yung Joc in 2006 (“It’s Goin’ Down”) he sound his sound remixed and regurgitated by countless struggle producers. And now, here we are.
Jordin Sparks ft. 2 Chainz – “Double Tap”
Producer: Jeberg
No shots but Jordan Sparks knew she was losing her fan base as the years from her American Idol run rolled by so she did want any sensible artist does in these times. Get her people to piece together a record that sounds like “today.” The song wasn’t exactly a hit but at least she has a spot in a club playlist at any given moment.
Britney Spears & Iggy Azalea – “Pretty Girls”
Producer: The Invisible Men
Where do you begin when you sit your grandchildren down to tell them about the colossal flop that was “Pretty Girls?” When the success for the aforementioned “Fancy” couldn’t be duplicated, Iggy Azalea reunited with the song’s producers, recruited Britney Spears but when the song failed to chart big and the pop queen didn’t want to promote or perform it, a serious L was served.
