In 2012 former Los Angeles Detetive Greg Kading made headlines with his book Murder Rap, where he named the individuals who gunned down The Notorious B.I.G and Tupac Shakur. Now the documentary Murder Rap: Inside The Biggie & Tupac Murders goes deeper into the murders.
The almost two hour film methodically tells the story of how the problems between Bad Boy Entertainment and Death Row Records started and how those differences and some outside parties contributed to the deaths of two of the greatest MC’s of all time.
1. Vibe Magazine Party
There is indeed footage of the party the Notorious B.I.G. attended before he was gunned down on March 9th 1997. In the video you can see Puff Daddy and other Bad Boy Entertainment affiliates partying.
2. The Shooting(s)
The documentary also cleared up the urban myth about a shooting that occurred not too far away from Peterson Automotive Museum about 30 minutes before The Notorious B.I.G. got shot. Many believe it served as a distraction to get local police away from B.I.G.’s hit but the events were unrelated.
3. Crips
Lil’ Cease and a couple of other key Bad Boy Entertainment affiliates confirm that the South Side Crips were indeed hired by Bad Boy for protection while doing concerts in California.
4. Faith
Allegedly Faith Evans celebrated when she was informed that the Southside Crips murdered Tupac.
5. The Feds
The documentary also states that the FBI were watching Puffy and Bad Boy very closely at the time of both murders. In 1996 several automatic weapons and drugs were found at B.I.G.’s Teaneck New Jersey home and the FBI were trying to see where the dope was coming from. An indictment was soon to come as well.
6. Murder For Hire
One of the shockers for us is the allegation that Puffy personally solicited Keefe D. to kill Tupac on two separate occasions. Once following a show and another during a meeting at a deli Hollywood. The asking price was one million but Keefe admitted they would have done it for much cheaper.
7. Zip
The man who was the connection between Puffy and the Crips Eric “Von Zip” Martin was also targeted by police after Keefe D. cooperated. They set up an elaborate sting operation where Keefe D. approached Zip outside of his nightclub Zipcodes in Harlem inquiring about securing some drugs. Zip felt uneasy and never followed up with Keefe D. It is to be noted that Zip was Puffy’s uncle and the godfather to one of B.I.G.’s children. Zip passed away due to complications of cancer in 2012.
8. Vegas
The Southside Crips were in town for the Mike Tyson in Vegas but came unarmed. Allegedly Eric “Von Zip” Martin was the one who provided them with the murder weapon. Additionally the documentary asserts that the Crips were unlucky with their search to find Pac after the beatdown of Orlando Anderson. The crew happened to be on the strip when they heard some females yell out Tupac’s name and that’s how they spotted their victim.
9. The Poole Theory
The book LAbyrynth which was heavily based on Russel Poole’s theory is quickly debunked. The information that Poole gravitated towards was provided by a jail house informant, Michael “Psycho Mike” Robinson. He gave up several names one which was “Amir” but all the other information provided was inaccurate and even ludicrous. He later admitted he made everything up.
10. Orlando
According to the documentary, Orlando Anderson was spotted in a white Cadillac in Los Angeles a couple of days after the murder of Tupac Shakur. Several witnesses stated the shooter was driving a white Cadillac. Even more alarming gang informants revealed to LAPD that Orlando was going around bragging that he killed Shakur. It got to the point where the bragging got out of hand and his uncle Keffe D. had to check Orlando on running his mouth. Lastly through circumstantial pieces of evidence, Kading believes that Orlando out of all people was present in Atlanta when Suge’s good friend and bodyguard Jake Robles was murdered allegedly by Puff’s friend Anthony “Wolf” Jones.
