Although it’s not slated to air until 2016, WGN has let loose the Underground trailer teaser for a series that is undoubtedly going to be one of television’s most provocative series ever created.
The :30 second video doesn’t show much in detail but drops a few hints on the sentiments that will be display in the show created by Misha Green (“Sons of Anarchy,” “Heroes”) and Joe Pokaski (“Daredevil,” “Heroes”), and executive producers Academy AwardĀ®-winning writer Akiva Goldsman (“A Beautiful Mind,” “I Am Legend”) and Academy AwardĀ®-winner John Legend.
During the spot, a few field slaves are shown picking cotton where as one bends over to reveal the Holy Bible hidden in the small of their back, the other pulls out a pistol from his pants. The uprising will be televised.
Produced by Sony Pictures Television and Tribune Studios, Underground stars Jurnee Smollett-Bell (āTrue Blood,ā āFriday Night Lightsā), Aldis Hodge (āStraight Outta Comptonā), Christopher Meloni (āSin City: A Dame to Kill Forā), Alano Miller (āJane The Virginā), āJessica de Gouw (āArrow,ā āDraculaā), Marc Blucas (āBuffy the Vampire Slayerā), āAdina Porter (āThe 100ā), Mykelti Williamson (āJustified,ā ā24ā), āAmirah Vann (āGirls,ā āAnd So It Goesā), Johnny Ray Gill (āRectifyā), Chris Chalk (āGothamā), Reed Diamond (āAgents of S.H.I.E.L.D.ā), Theodus Crane (āThe Walking Deadā), Renwick Scott (āTremeā) and Jussie Smollett (āEmpireā).
On a related note, cotton farming in the southern United States is severely on the decline. There is too much bad history with that crop.
