Macklemore‘s new song, “White Privilege II” talking—along with Iggy Azalea feeling a ways—and that’s the point. Black Lives Matter activist Deray McKesson reached out the Seattle rapper for further clarity about the intentions behind the song.
After getting in contact with the Grammy winner by DM, Deray, who recently discussed white privilege on national TV with Stephen Colbert, relayed their convo on Twitter.
“As I’ve said from the beginning, I think Macklemore’s song is important. And all art, including his song, is open to critique,” tweeted Deray on Saturday morning (Jan. 23). “We talked about the impetus for the song & he noted that it was Darren Wilson’s non-indictment & the protests that pushed him to write.”
