Cam Newton was supposed to be the one.
Ricky got shot in an alley. Mike Vick went to jail and lost a step. Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton was supposed to be our savior. But then he went and started wearing funny clothes and making silly statements like “we are beyond [racism] as a nation” and “we all the same color.”
To his credit, Cam may have been saying that we all bleed red.
His full quote reads:
“What I can’t fathom is how does 1/8 of an inch, something so small be the difference in such a big commodity in our whole lifetime, and that’s the thickness of our skin,” said Newton. “And under that, we’re all the same color. And that’s the big picture.”
But, his statements have already been viewed as suspect in the court of public opinion.
As more people decide to ride with Colin Kaepernick and his protest, Cam’s “can’t we all just get along” sensibilities are looking funny in the light.
Here’s what some of you are saying about the dabbing quarterback.
