Luke Cage is a wanted man. Sort of. Cottonmouth has him in his crosshairs but knows that the man is impenetrable to everything he can throw at him… right?

Now that Luke’s name is ringing more bells than a Jehovah’s Witness, Stokes comes up with a plan to shame him out of the neighborhood while covering the losses the reluctant hero cost him during his crusade.

Will his latest masterplan work or will it only continue to lead Cottonmouth having nothing but sweat in the palm of his hand?

Here’s a quick recap of Marvel’s Luke Cage, Episode 5: Just To Get A Rep.

Cottonmouth Broke

Luke’s hit on Fort Knox has cottonmouth going into his pocket only to pull out rabbit ears (not really but still). Yet, instead of going directly at Luke for revenge, Cotton decides that he’ll put the squeeze on every business from 110th to 155th just to slander Luke Cage’s name and have him take the blame for the new street taxes hoping the community will turn on their new neighborhood hero. Pretty clever plan to be honest. Unfortunately it backfires and Luke helps people get their property back rather easily.

Wreckonize

After helping the people of Harlem get their street tax refund, Luke pays a visit to Harlem’s Paradise to let Cottonmouth know it’s gone far enough. After seeing Luke manhandle the muscle and bullets bounce off his chest like steel, Shade’s finally realizes that he’s Carl Lucas and puts on Cottonmouth to the man who’s “supposed to be dead.”

Futuristic Weaponry

Seems like there might be some kryptonite for super Black man after all. Shades introduced Cottonmouth to some space age ammo that can destroy Kevlar vests with penetrating explosive material. The problem is the price of a single bullet might be just a tad bit out of Cottonmouth’s budget. Shades warns him that should he strike some kind of deal with Diamondback for the ammunition that he may lose his stake in Harlem in the process.

The Jig Is Up?

Misty Knight’s partner seems to have gotten sloppy enough to catch the eye of IAB. Misty’s Captain, Betty Audrey (did Kima’s work on The Wire get her this promotion to New York?) pays her a visit along with detective LT and put her on to game. Naturally Misty isn’t buying it but is now aware that something’s amiss.

Broken Blue

Turns out that detective LT is just as dirty as detective Scarfe. LT warns Scarfe that IA is investigating them but also tells him that they to do a little favor for their employer, Cottonmouth.

Eulogy

Even though he was warned by detective Misty to stay away from Pops wake, Luke goes to pay respect to the man that gave him a clean slate. During the service both he and Cottonmouth gave some touching tributes while trading subliminal barbs towards one another. Surprisingly enough both of their eulogies got approval and applause from the audience. Not sure Pops would approve of any of this foolery.

Final Warning

After watching Luke Cage and Cottonmouth exchange pleasantries in honor of Pops, Misty Knight approaches Luke and warns him that even though he’s bulletproof, Harlem isn’t and he should hightail it out of town before more innocent folk pay the price for his crusade. Needless to say, he dismissed her plea and let her know he ain’t going nowhere.
