Issa Rae has been winning for a minute, but the news that HBO plans to renew her series Insecure is surely a great delight to her many fans. The drama-comedy series joins several shows that the network plans to bring back for 2017.

TheGrio writes:

“Insecure” has been lauded as showing a non-stereotypical view of the black female experience, examining the real-life and sometimes awkward situations that come with everyday life.

The show was created by Issa Rae and Larry Wilmore, and while Rae stars, Wilmore did not participate because of his late-night show obligations. However, it is unclear what role he will play now that his show is no longer airing, though he has continued to be a consultant for the project.

Insecure‘s success is just one of the many highlights involving women of color during this current fall television swing, and hopefully will give rise to a diverse slate of stories in the coming years as audiences continue to shift.
