DJ Scratch was a central figure in the group EPMD, joining the crew in 1989 as their official man on the turntables. In the past year, the relationship between Grandmaster Scratch and EPMD has been particularly strained due to what the DJ says is over money and missed show opportunities.

On New Year’s Day, Scratch took to Instagram and expressed his disdain with Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith over unpaid appearance fees and scheduled shows he wasn’t informed about. Scratch also took the moment to announce he’s been made an official tour DJ for A Tribe Called Quest as they embark on an upcoming road schedule.

From DJ Scratch’s Instagram:

A year ago tonight was the last show I did with my former group. I was tired of the lies, the money stealing & the sneaking around doing shows without me to keep more bread in their pockets meanwhile RUINING the brand!!

So here’s my 2016 Wrap Up: Rite after I left the group I upgraded & relaunched ScratchVision.com, went on a world tour of my own. Then was the opening act for Beyonce’s tour. Signed a endorsement deal with Monster Energy, then went on the Monster Energy tour (Still on tour). Launched my own App, then I was knighted a Grandmaster by Kool Herc.

Scratch then adds that after being invited to perform scratches on A Tribe Called Quest’s last release We Got It From Here…Thanks For Your Service, the group asked him to be its special guest tour DJ. He ended the post by taking shots at EPMD for not being able to afford to pay him while ATCQ could afford to pay two DJs.
