NFL Network reporter Ian Rapaport says that Aaron Hernandez once threatened to kill him in the New England Patriots’ locker room.

Aaron Hernandez has been dead for two days now, but that’s not stopping Rapaport from sharing one of his lasting memories of the former NFL star. In an interview with Monday Morning QuarterbackRapaport joined a group of other journalists who covered Hernandez’ career to talk about what they knew of him. Rapaport, who was a beat reporter for the Boston Herald during Hernandez’ rookie year, told a story about a time when Hernandez threatened to kill him. Little did he know that he was not joking.

“When we first exchanged numbers, he called me over and said, ‘Hey I just want you to know, you’re my guy. If you need anything let me know, I will help you out if I can. But I just want you to know, if you f*ck me over, I’ll kill you,'” Rapoport said. “I sort of laughed a little bit, and I said, ‘Don’t worry, I got you, I’ll take care of you.'”

He continues, “It was me and this other reporter from CBS Sports, William Bendetson, and he was standing there and had listened and we kind of turned to each other and both laughed…And then the first text I got after it became clear that Hernandez was the suspect in the murder investigation was from William Bendetson, who was like, ‘Hey remember that day in the locker room?'”

With Hernandez dead and gone we should probably expect more people to share their “I be talking again” moments.
