The Golden State Warriors defeated the visiting Cleveland Cavaliers Monday night (June 12), adding to a classic battle of back-and-forth between the two talented teams. As expected, fan reaction on social media has been swift, most especially on Twitter.
Perhaps the biggest story in the Golden State Warriors win is the fact that Kevin Durant, who defected from the Oklahoma City Thunder, finally gets his elusive championship ring after getting to the finals just once before in 2012. As the series MVP, Durant proved he was more than just along for the ride with the swingman scoring 39 points on 14-20 shooting and playing both ends of the floor. Stephen Curry also showed superb leadership and poured in 30 points in the balanced team effort.
LeBron James did all that he could to extend the season and had some help from J.R. Smith. James ended with 41 points and 13 rebounds, flirting with a triple-double with eight assists to boot. Fans on Twitter are still hard on the so-called “superteam” aspect of the Warriors, with some saying they don’t respect the squad. Cold world.
