Nelly was arrested earlier this morning (Oct. 7) for allegedly raping a woman on his tour bus during a stop in Washington state. The rapper’s lawyer has since come forth to issue a statement exclusively to TMZ stating that his client plans to defend the allegations and called the charges false.

TMZ reports:

Law enforcement sources tell us, a woman claims she was raped on the rapper’s tour bus in Washington, where he’s been performing. Nelly is on a tour with Florida Georgia Line and they are set to perform Saturday night in Ridgefield, Washington.

We’re told the alleged rape occurred Saturday morning at around 3:45 AM. We’re told she specifically said Nelly is the one who raped her.

The 42-year-old St. Louis artist born Cornell Haynes Jr. had his lawyer get ahead of the story with a statement delivered to the outlet this afternoon.

“Nelly is the victim of a completely fabricated allegation. Our initial investigation clearly establishes the allegation is devoid of credibility and is motivated by greed and vindictiveness. I am confident, once the scurrilous accusation is thoroughly investigated, there will be no charges,” Nelly’s attorney said.

Once word got out about the rape charges, one person tweeted about Nelly and his interaction with young fans while onstage.

This story will surely develop in the coming days and we will update accordingly.
