When Alex Bowen walked into a South Carolina Waffle House he was a normal man. When he left, he was a legend.

On the early morning of Thursday, November 30 a slightly tipsy Bowen couldn’t sleep so he decided to grab a bite to eat at a local Waffle House.

When he entered the West Columbia eatery he found the staff asleep. Naturally, he took the rare opportunity to do what every other Waffle House customer would have done.

Alex proceeded to fix his own food and document the entire score via selfies. “I walked back outside to look for employees, no one in sight,” he said. That is when he spotted a worker sleeping in a booth which was his signal to hit the grill.

“Got hot on the grill with a double Texas bacon cheese steak melt with extra pickles,” Bowen said. “When I was done I cleaned the grill, collected my ill-gotten sandwich and rolled on out.”

When asked if he paid for the food he said no but he was kind enough to leave a five dollar tip to the aforementioned associate who was counting sheep.

Waffle House executives released a formal statement on the incident:

“Our local Division Manager has spoken to Alex and apologized. For safety reasons, our customers should never have to go behind the counter. Rather they should get a quality experience delivered by friendly associates. We are reviewing this incident and will take appropriate disciplinary action.

In a related note, obviously Alex has some cooking skills, and we’d like to talk to him about a job since we may have something for him.”

Additionally, the worker has been suspended for a week. You can view more photos from this glorious caper on the following pages.
