Jose Agostinho Pereira,  convicted of imprisoning and abusing daughter killed in Brazil

In North-Eastern Brazil, Jose Agostinho Pereira was convicted in December for imprisoning his daughter for 12 years and fathering her seven children and abusing them.

He was sentenced to 63 years for sexual abuse and private incarceration of his daughter in a remote hut.

Jose will not get to serve out his sentence due to a prison riot that began when a number of inmates made an attempt to escape. The attempt was thwarted by guards and the prisoners began to raid the cells of other inmates that were charged with rape and pedophilia.

They managed to kill six of them, four of the bodies were decapitated, two were severely stabbed.

Mr. Pereira was one of those that lay decapitated.

According to the Associated Press, he kept one of his daughters and their children in subhuman conditions.

Police also proved that Pereira abused his 8-year-old daughter-granddaughter. When police arrested him, they found his children naked, malnourished and barely able to communicate with each other.

Did the punishment fit the crime or should he have served out his sentence?
