Michael Vick has reportedly withdrawn himself from which was expected to be his Oprah appearance today.

Winfrey had to withdraw her bet with CNN newsman Piers Morgan over who would land the first in-depth interview with the sportsman, who was jailed in 2007 for his part in a dog fighting ring, in order to land the big get – but now Vick has backed out of the TV chat, which was scheduled to air next week (24Feb11).

Vick was expected to discuss his 18-month prison stint and his image makeover as the quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles on the show.

A statement from him reads,

“After careful consideration, I will need to postpone the taping of the Oprah Winfrey interview scheduled for February 22. I admire and respect Oprah and hope to be able to participate in an interview in the future.”

The NFL star who has had a long turmoil of trouble with the law, has finally gotten himself together and has produced one of the best football seasons he’s ever had, landing him a new contract and the franchise tag for the Philadelphia Eagles.
