Chauncey Bailey: Yusuf Bey, Antoine Mackey Convicted Of Killing Oakland Journalist

A jury convicted 25-year-old Yusuf Bey IV on Thursday of three counts of first-degree murder for ordering the 2007 slayings of Oakland newspaper editor Chauncey Bailey and two other men.

Bey is the former leader of Your Black Muslim Bakery, a black empowerment group that is now involved in criminal activity. He was accused of ordering Devaughndre Broussard to kill Bailey because he was investigating the Bakery.

Antoine Mackey, 25, was also found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder for the killings of Bailey and Michael Wills, 36.

Mackey, a former bakery supervisor, was accused of acting as the getaway driver for Devaughndre Broussard, who confessed to killing Bailey on a busy city street with three shotgun blasts, including a final shot to the face to ensure his victim was dead.

District Attorney Nancy O’Malley said, “What may have been once a productive organization in Oakland became nothing more than a criminal street gang engaging in senseless violence and unyielding terror.”
