BART Police Shoot, Kill Man On Platform Of Civic Center Station

Another man was shoot and kill by the Bay Area Rapid Transit police, which is the same police force that shot and killed Oscar Grant in 2009.

Reports by the Associated Press state:

A man reportedly armed with a knife on a Bay Area Rapid Transit station platform was shot and killed by police, transit officials said Monday.

Dispatchers received a call of a “wobbly drunk” with an open bottle of alcohol on the platform of the Civic Center/UN Plaza station in San Francisco around 9:30 p.m. Sunday, according to transit officials.

Two transit officers arrived and then reported shooting a man in the torso. He died about an hour later at the hospital, officials said. Investigators said they found broken glass and knives at the scene.

One BART officer suffered cuts and bruises on his arm. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave.

Also, before black folks start another riot, please note the following:

“Neither the victim nor the officers involved in the latest shooting were identified, though BART officials said the dead man was white. One officer is white, and the other is Asian.”

The case of Oscar Grant has been in recent news, due to the early release Johannes Mehserle, the ex-cop convicted in the death of Grant, and a $1.3 million settlement between BART and Oscar Grant’s mother, Wanda Johsnon.

Even if this latest shooting death is in no fault of BART police, this incident is still another black eye, red flag and negative media attention for the Bay Area Rapid Transit station.
