In Jacksonville, Fla., a predominately Black high school bearing the name of an early leader of the Ku Klux Klan. Nathan B. Forrest High School will have its name changed in July 2014 after years of challenges from community leaders to get the KKK‘s leader’s name removed from the building.

The white nationalist organization Ku Klux Klan once boasted millions of members in the early 20th Century, but their numbers are much smaller these days. Daryl Davis, a Black musician who befriends KKK members, may share some responsibility in the group’s shrinking membership.

A few days ago we would have said blackface was the epitome of Halloween struggle, then we saw this. A clearly racist Virginia mother allowed her 7-year-old to wear, and go trick or treating, in a KKK costume for Halloween, and is proudly defending her decision.
