Run DMC’s Hip-Hop imprint has helped to commemorate the trio as musical pioneers. With their extensive list of crossover hits, Rev Run, Darryl ‘DMC’ McDaniels and Jam-Master Jay have become internationally recognized as rap royalty. In August a street was renamed ‘Run DMC JMJ Way’ in their honor to pay homage to their contributions in modern day music. Now nearly two short months later, the Hip-Hop icons are in the works to share their memoirs in a musical.

Variety magazine reports that DMC and Rev Run are meeting with an executive producer to work on lending their story to a Broadway stage. The legends will meet with Paula Wagner, producer of “Mission Impossible”, “The Last Samurai “and “Vanilla Sky” to discuss details on the upcoming project.

The magazine reports that,

“The musical will tell the story of Run-DMC, the first rap act to cross over and influence American music. The story of Simmons, McDaniels and their musical partner Jason “Jam-Master Jay” Mizell (who was murdered in 2002) will be told in a unique manner.”

Wagner, the producer-to-be, expressed her excitement about the project saying,

“I feel their story lends itself perfectly to the stage. This project has been a passion of mine for some time and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with them.”
