A man that spent four years in a New York prison for a gang rape that never happened is finally seeing the light of day. Construction worker William McCaffrey was cleared of all charges after his accuser admitted she created the tall tale to make her friends feel sorry for her. New DNA testing also proved his innocence but the woman recanting her story ultimately led to his release.

The woman originally said McCaffrey and two other men raped her at knife point after luring her into their car in 2005. McCaffrey said she had agreed to go with them to a party and they dropped her off unharmed after she changed her mind.

The accuser confessed the lie to a priest before reporting to authorities this year.

She faces up to seven years in jail for perjury.
