Jay-Z's “On To The Next One” Director Explains "Illumanati" Video
When Jay-Z and Swizz Beatz premiered their video for “On To The Next One” on New Year's Eve the world was abuzz with rumors that the Jigga man was confirming rumors that he was in ties with an underground secret society.
The video's dark imagery and gothic undertones led to numerous YouTube videos breaking down the visual to expose the seemingly dark forces behind it and Jay's ties to the Illuminati and FreeMasonry.
Now for the first time the director of the video Sam Brown is speaking out to defend his work.
Brown spoke in an interview with Vibe on his product saying that the “visually illiterate” public got it all wrong, there are no ties with the video to any culture or belief system.
“I think when you're dealing in abstract imagery people are going to want to draw lines between things and make sense of it. However, I've always felt that the viewing public was, in general, extremely visually literate. They don't always want or need things to be spelt out for them. One of the great things about music videos are they can be enjoyed purely visually—it doesn't need to mean anything or make any sense….
There is imagery in this video that is drawn from all over the place. None of it is owned by any one culture or belief system. You can connect anything if you try hard enough, and make it mean anything you want it to.”
He also added to Vibe that while Jay gave him a “loose brief” of the concept for the video, ultimately the idea for the video was his.
“He gave me a very loose brief, and made it clear that we should be progressive with the video. All the imagery was thought up by me and was a response to the track itself.
For those interested, the idea is actually about a funeral for old imagery and ideas, hence all the gothic and oppressive stuff. I was also trying to contradict the excess of hip-hop videos by making something brutally simple and claustrophobic.”
See? It all makes sense now.

Wow... It is sad that so many people are so painfully limited when it comes to interpreting and appreciating art. I think that the caustic effect that this video has had on the ignorant is a byproduct of simplicity. Perhaps the public is not ready for a hip hop video that is neither violent nor sexually explicit. The mouth breathing viewer is left unfed and must create something more from the beautifully simple imagery to be satisfied. I found this video oddly refreshing and hope to see more like it.
I think that the owners and writers of Bossip have been paid off to deny the relationship between Jay Z, Rhianna, Beyonce, Kanye and many others to the illuminati. They only write about it to show face and because everyone is talking about it. I remember when they first started writing about the illuminati they seemed more open to the possibility of the existence of the illuminati. I call bull*****. People have been saying this stuff about him since he came out. So what compelled someone to come out in the media all of a sudden? If was all in the directors head why does Jay throw up 3 finger through out the video? He representing 3rd degree masons. Honestly its deeper than just this video. Hov stands for Jahovah. The skull and bones symbol loosely tied to freemasons is apart of his clothing line too. He blantently does the mason handshake in public. I agree, I kinda thought about it too. I doubt he's a devil worshiper though. Its interesting how everyone is saying " the illuminati" is exisiting or is present. In my opinion, I don't believe there is or any artist is apart of it at all. Im not stupid but this is my opinion. Many artists go to museums and art shows. Many artists have showcased what his video showed. Which is abstract art! Its in many modern museums. He deffinitly went to an exhibit I wanted to see in theb museum of modern art.

This, in my humblest opinion, is both ART and SUBMLIMINAL messaging. Art is being used, yes...but those that understand spiritual things know that this is blatantly a spiritual movement. Abstract Art or not Abstract Art / Evil or not evil
No doubt the whole Freemason illuminati thing has us all (especially the most ardent Jigga fans ) scratching our heads.
Maybe others are certain he is on the wrong side some of us think its just another Jigga propaganda.
