In between recording and traveling the world, Nasir Jones is still finding time to relay positive messages to the community.

½ of the Distant Relatives made a recent stop in Pittsburgh for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s annual National Keystone Conference.

The Keystone Conference which highlights the cream of the crop in the youth guidance organization, brought out students from across the country to hear messages from Nas, NFL player Bob Lanier and Ne-Yo.

Speaking to the group of 900 students during the 4 day conference, Nas pledged to one day get his high school diploma and the Pittsburgh Gazette quoted him as saying,

“The reality of it is, you need to keep educating yourself, and I wish I had stayed in school.”

Frank Sanchez, the vice president for corporate and partner relationships for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America agrees with Nas’ sentiments and told the Gazette that while the students in the Key Club are talented, they also face “significant challenges.”

He commended Nas’ speech saying,

“This is an incredible message, to have someone who succeeded so much in their life, but there is still a void.”

The Keystone Club is part of the Boy & Girls club that advocates for leadership in community service. There are about 12,000 members total.
