NFL Star Plaxico Burress Remains In Jail, Denied Second Bid For Work Release Program

NEWS

Former NFL and New York Giants superstar wide receiver Plaxico Burress has been denied his bid for work release for the second time.

Currently serving a two-year sentence, Plax could remain in jail until next spring.

As previously reported, Burress plead guilty in August of 2099  to criminal weapons possession of a weapon  after he accidentally shot himself in the leg inside a New York nightclub in 2008.

According to The Associated Press, the state Department of Correctional Services said the nature of his November 2008 crime merited turning down his request for a work furlough, which would have let him spend some portion of his time free and working.

Burress can appeal the decision but otherwise can't reapply for a work furlough until June 6, 2011, the date he comes up for potential full release if he gets time off for good behavior.

"The serious and negative impact illegal guns have on the community coupled with (the) dangerous nature of the weapon discharging in a public place renders him unsuitable for work release," the agency said.

Plaxico has also has completed an anger management program behind bars, Foglia said.

The sentence was outrageous. I don't think he was stupid for having a gun. I think he was stupid for having one in the chamber and the safety off. But a 3 1/2 year sentence is totally out of line for a father and a person who brought the city tremendous joy after the 9/11 tragedy. What person in their right mind would throw a mans life away after making a wrong decision. It's well known that a black man does not want to depend on the police for protection. Most people would rather protect themselves. Thats all good and well. We all know that the police are not their to serve everyone, Just the people who sign their paychecks. Its sad how someone who is not your peer can decide your FATE. If a wealthy white person or police officer commits a crime or commits a huge MISTAKE, does the judge grab a bunch of african americans from a black community to decide their FATE!! HELL know. The system works for them. Black people are not judged by their peers. Thats why te

Plaxico should never had went to jail. This is a cl*****ic case of community service and probation. Instead of letting this man make a difference in his community they would rather throw his life away. I don't understand. Make him go to the schools and work with the kids and tell them not to play with guns. Make a positive from a negative. He so much for the city of new york. Especially after the 9/11 tragedy. He poured his heart into the New York Giants and the city of New York, he brought the city so much joy that they needed badly after 9/11. And this is how the city shows him appreciation. No one will ever respect authority when they continue to throw good peoples lives away for petty crimes. They to will be judged one day!!! Free Plaxico!!
