14th Miner Freed In Chile
A 14th man has been freed from the mine in Chile.
The world is watching as the Chilean government works to free the 33 miners that were trapped underground for 69 days, the longest anyone has ever been trapped underground and survived.
33-year-old Victor Zamora was the fourteenth man to be lifted out of the mine more than 10 hours after the “Phoenix” rescue capsule brought the first miner to safety.
The men became trapped August 3 when 700,000 tons of rock collapsed and sealed them in the lower depths of a mine.
Their release comes months earlier than expected with the government originally estimating that they’d be trapped till Christmas.
The second man freed from the mine, 40-year-old Mario Sepulveda, gave out hugs and handed out souvenir rocks.
He also told the press he had spent the last 10 weeks “between God and the devil.”
“They fought, God won,” he added.
CBS is live streaming the miners’ ongoing rescue.
