Trey Songz Hit With Multi-Million Dollar Lawsuit

NEWS

Trey Songz Sued
R&B heartthrob Trey Songz has felt the passion and pleasure of the music industry and now the Virginia crooner may have to feel some pain in his pockets if a DC based production company has their way.

The company has filed an $18 million lawsuit claiming they own the rights to the hit song "Bottoms Up" performed by Trey Songz and Nicki Minaj, but were never compensated or credited with making the track.

Derrick Price, Doc Mob Records and IHip Hop Music filed the lawsuit February 2 in the Southern District of New York, which claims Doc Mob hired producer Milton James aka "Tony Scales" to produce the original, copyrighted track for "Bottoms Up" for his company, Doc Mob Records.

The lawsuit goes on to allege that during the completion of the track, James teamed with producer Kane Beatz who added production to the song, making it the finished version used by Songz.

Price, Doc Mob Records and IHip Hop Music go on to claim in the lawsuit that the song used on Passion, Pain and Pleasure only lists Kane Beatz as the sole producer and that they were never credited or paid..

Price alleges that he sent multiple cease-and-desist letters to Atlantic Records and Trey Songz, but they were reportedly ignored.

The lawsuit also names Atlantic Records, Kodak, manager Gee Robertson, producer Kane Beatz and others as defendants.

Camera company Kodak was named in the suit for using the song in a series of advertisements that featured the singer.

In other Songz news, the singer has released his take on Lil Wayne's hit "6'7."

A rapping Trigga returns on the track rumored to be on his upcoming #LemmeHolDatBeat 2 mixtape.

Hold Up, the people in question is now talking. I mean, the song has been out for about 6 or 7 months now and now they have something to say. I mean, Trey and Nicki wrote the song, so what do the other people have to say about that. And another question, are they trying to sue Nicki aswell? I mean, damn, it`s just a song, and now people trying to take credit after all of this time. Also, the kodak commercial has been out since last year, why now you ( the others) want to take credit. Trey, I`m praying for you, and hope all goes well. The others aren`t nothing but a bunch of haters that is trying to steal someone elses shine, but they can`t. Trey, hold your head up, make great music this year without these people, if it is indeed true, and continue on your journey. Love Your #1 Fan & Wifey!

I feel their pain too. I was never credited or paid for my song that I wrote for Nelly called, "When You Gonna Marry Me" Really he just said hell no, but I thought I would at least get paid for swallowing his babies. In my dreams of course!!! arionataylor.blogspot.com

  • hello

I do wonder why it takes people FOREVER to sue but it seems like they were trying to contact all those involved before filing the lawsuit. I guess this is what comes with the territory...pay those people! ( if they did what they claimed they did!)

If they own the rights how is there even a slight mystery about who owns the song. Lets be clear there is a difference in saying you wrote a song and or you have ownership of the record. Writing is one thing, owning the song is a whole nother. when you have the rights to a song you get paid off top and if you sell a song just wait on your money, dont give up anything until you get paid thats easy... somebody just tryna get paid damn shame...
