Lawyer Says Jay-Z Wants "Too Much" To Settle 40/40 Beef With David Ortiz

As previously reported here, Jay-Z sued Boston Red Sox' star, David Ortiz last year for trademark infringement after Ortiz opened up his Forty/Forty Club in the Dominican Republic.

The lawsuit was settled and Hov asked for $5 million but recent reports indicate that the lawyers do not have authority in this case to simply settle.

David Ortiz' manager, Mark Walker stated that Jay-Z wanted too much money out of them. The lawsuit filed in April, 2010, and revisited in June of the same year will continue negotiations as yesterday's proceedings ended in a 3-hour stalemate.

this right here is absurd. i understand the infringement and the legality of it, but this just shows how greedy and money hungry some people can be. i HIGHLY doubt that Jay-Z has incurred $5 million in damages towards his venues, he could simply move to have Ortiz' facility shut down, but instead he is demanding an insane amount of money, when i am CERTAIN he already has millions at his disposal... hov this is REALLY unnecessary.. smmfh

  • Itdoesn’tmatter

People/Companies usually do this to set a precedence to say if you copyright we will come for you and its usually not about the money is about stealing from someone and not giving credit to them and It's the same way in music. When you use an artist song or track in your song without their knowledge, then artist who you infringe upon usually doesn't sue until after the money has come in that's why you always here of someone suing years later after the song has been released. The concept is not any different here. And who are we kidding this man blatantly did this...He knew full well what naming his club that would do for his business, so don't do play the game and then complain about the penalty fee when you get caught....*SMH*

And then the other thing to take into account is how much money this man took into this club based on him using the name.
