Sony Picks Up Rapaport’s Tribe Called Quest Doc ‘Beats, Rhymes & Life’‎

Despite Q-Tip’s opposition to Michael Rapaport’s documentary on A Tribe Called Quest, Sony Pictures Classics has picked up the rights to the film. The groups lead man tweeted that, “The filmmaker should respect the band to the point of honoring the few requests that’s was made abt the piece.”

Though Tip has stated he wants nothing to do with Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest, fellow Tribe member, Phife Dawg reportedly cried tears of joy after seeing the flick.

Rapaport’s directorial debut focuses on the 2006 reunion of the Tribe. It premiered at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and received rave reviews.

Rapaport said, “Telling this story was not only a labor of love but also the most fulfilling accomplishment of my career.”
