DJ Big Mike Arrested For Selling And Distributing Mixtapes
DJ Big Mike Arrested For Music Piracy
DJ Big Mike has been killing the mixtape scene for a decade and now the RIAA has decided to cease his lifeline. A two-year investigation resulted in the arrest of DJ Big Mike, whose real name is Michael Wilcox last week.
The RIAA conducted a surveillance of a suspected “burner lab” and even had an investigator purchase a CD for $5 from a gas station where the alleged illegal discs were dropped off.
A search warrant was then executed on Mike's home where Danbury police found about 3,500 disks suspected of containing pirated music and inserts to make about 40,000 items, according to the affidavit. Songs by Lil Wayne, Mya, The Dream and G Unit and other Universal artists were part of what was found, according to the affidavit.
A tw0-year investigation for CD piracy? More arrests are on the way so this is most likely a warning shot. We know artists are losing money but is this the best way to save a dying industry?
