Chicago rapper Lupe Fiasco has been getting a lot of media of late for his outspoken stances, including railing against negative song and video reviews and expressing weighty emotion when talking about the violence in his hometown. The latest buzz moment for the Lasers rapper was sparked by some pointed criticism for one of his city’s hottest young talents in Chief Keef, saying the teenager “scares” him while visiting Baltimore station 92Q Jams.
“Chief Keef scares me. Not him specifically, but just the culture that he represent, specifically in Chicago,” Lupe said, addressing the host’s question on whether or not Keef was on his radar.
Lupe continued with, “My family lives in Chicago, my cousins, my nephews, my friends, my peoples…they all in those hoods that he [Keef] represents. I don’t want to call Chief Keef a hoodlum. But the hoodlums, the gangsters, and the ones you see killing each other and the murder rate in Chicago is skyrocketing and you see who’s doing it and perpetrating it, they all look like Chief Keef.”
The “B-tch Bad” rapper admitted that he wasn’t as lucid as he wanted to be and even seemed to empathize with Chief Keef, but still held fast to his convictions all the same. “I understand where he’s coming from, and I understand his struggle and I’m not at him, I’m at where he came from,” Lupe said further. “And places like that still exist and they incubate that mentality…and that incubator is working overtime right now. It’s just sending these kids to slaughter.”
