Mike Will Made It Credits Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz & Future For His Success [VIDEO]
The 23-year-old collected a few plaques in 2012 with production work with 2 Chainz, Juicy J and creating the summer smash “Mercy” for Kanye West and crew. His foray into music occurred when he was just a teenager, along with urging from a friend to remix a hit track from Fabolous.
“I started when I was a teenager around 14,” said Mike Will. “I was just messing around, playing stuff I heard on the radio and playing stuff back. My homeboy was like, ‘Yo bruh, you should start making beats.’ I start messing around with the MP[C] and I asked him how to use it. I took the Fabolous “Holla Back Young’n” melody and turned it into some No Limit, Cash Money type.”
After crafting his first beat in the store and impressing listeners, Mike Will caught the bug and asked his father for equipment. The former high school athlete got some pushback from his father, but eventually got his wish. “He got me a little beat machine and I just been rocking ever since,” shared Mike Will. “I met Gucci when I was 16.”
Mike Will’s affiliation with Gucci Mane led to the Down South product to work with several acts such as Waka Flocka Flame, the late Slim Dunkin, OJ Da Juiceman and others. However, it was his connection with the former Tity Boi and Future that truly catapulted Mike Will. “I got my first platinum record (“No Lie”) with somebody I been workin’ with since 2008, and that’s 2 Chainz. And with Future, that’s like my brother.”
