The Notorious B.I.G.'s "Big Poppa" Used To Sell Taco Bell Burritos [VIDEO]
Hip-Hop has been used to sell products for years, so of course a tune by the Notorious B.I.G. would be used as the musical background for a commercial. A version of the late rapper's smash hit "Big Poppa" is being used by Taco Bell to promote its Cantina Steak Burrito.
In the commercial, a white guy walking with his kid strapped into baby bjorn (thus he is "Big Poppa," get it?) is seen going about his business before he eventually picks up a burrito from Taco Bell. The song playing is clearly a riff on B.I.G.'s hit, which itself utilizes a prominent sample of the Isley Brothers' "Between The Sheets," except the rhymes are in Spanish. So "I love it when they call me big poppa," becomes "Me encante cuando me llames grande papi."
The commercial is in the same vein as the Taco Bell spot that aired during the Super Bowl which featured old folks getting down to a Spanish language cover of Fun.'s "We Are Young." Would the Notorious B.I.G. have approved of his song being used to sling burritos? Certainly it would have been a nice check but unfortunately we'll never know for sure.
Peep Taco Bell's commercial below. But for real, Welch's should have flipped a commercial with "Big Poppa" music years ago. Just saying.
