When all is said and don, Nas and Black Thought will go down as two of the Hip-Hop game’s greatest lyricists. But at one point, the Queens rapper came close to getting blessed with the fade by the Roots’ resident MC. Thought explained the situation to The Combat Jack Show.

According to Thought, the sirloin between he and God’s Son start sizzling after he made some disparaging remarks about the Roots appearing in the Spike Lee film Bamboozled. “I hadn’t really interacted with him at all up until that point. And then there was a show one night with Talib Kweli, and I think Kweli invited Nas and he invited me, and we were all there in the building together,” recalled Thought. “I had a chance to meet Nas, and he explained to me that it wasn’t coming from a personal place, and he basically apologized.”

A potential fade delivery was avoided. “I was ready for whatever,” added Thought. “Yeah, I was gonna take Nas that night. When I heard he was gonna be there, I was like, “Should I just slap the shit outta Nas?”… But before any of that, he defused it, on some real, bigger man sh-t.”

The Combat Jack Show is now part of Complex TV and will kicks off as a 12 week web series on April 22. Salute!
