After 24 years, DJ Premier had to get a new home. D&D Studios, the place where albums like Jay Z’s Reasonable Doubt, Nas’ Illmatic, Black Moon’s Enta Da Stage and the Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready To Die were at least partially recorded closed shop on January 7. DJ Premier broke the news via a series of posts on his Instagram.
Premier and everyone else in the building has to go to make way for new luxury condos.According to AmbrosiaForHeads, Premo, who previously purchased the lease and renamed the studio HeadCourterz, will be relocating to Kaufman Astoria Studios in Queens to handle his always in demand production work.
Check out images of Premier packing up shop—and dropping history lesson—in the following pages. We got to catch up with Premier at D&D right here.
