Protestors are calling for the names of the Minneapolis police officers involved with the near-death of Jamar Clark; a twenty-something Black man who was apparently brutalized with a head shot while being detained in police custody.

The Star-Tribune reports that Nekima Levy-Pounds, president of the Minneapolis NAACP, said that it was Clark who was “shot and killed” by police after the department declined to release his name to the public. As he lay brain-dead in the Hennepin County Medical Center intensive care unit yesterday, Sunday November 15, a family member told the press their kin had been shot “in the head, execution style.”

Earlier that day, authorities responded to a domestic dispute between Clark and his girlfriend and when they arrived, his neighbor Nekelia Sharp says Clark was handcuffed and shot after he attempted to talk to her as paramedics were taking her away.

“We’ve been saying for a long time that Minneapolis was one bullet away from Ferguson. Well, that bullet was fired last night,” Jason Sole, an associate professor at Metropolitan State University and a member of the local NAACP chapter, told the crowd of mourners and enraged protestors.

Minneapolis Police Chief Janee Harteau promised an investigation stating, “everyone deserves to learn the truth.”

“We’re here because police officers have gotten away with murder for so long and we’re tired of it,” Mica Grimm, an organizer with Black Lives Matter Minneapolis, said of her union’s need to vigilant in these times.
