Two Texas drug traffickers who say they worked with corrupt cops to stage phony cocaine busts have been arrested in separate instances this month. Mario Alejandro Solis, 37, was arrested last Friday (Mar. 11), and Carlos Aron Oyervides, 40, was arrested March 4 in similar cocaine cases.
Solis, who lived in San Juan, and Oyervides, who hailed from Houston, told the federal agents that arrested them that they staged drug busts using fake powder with the help of officers, who were not named in public documents. According to the men, the busts were held in the cities of Edcouch and Houston and aided them in seizing real cocaine that they later sold off.
Documents point to two incidents in 2013 where the men were able to dupe other drug dealers. On March 18, 2013, 19 kilograms were seized by the Edcouch Police Department that was left in a taxi. However, a closer look at the package revealed it was wooden blocks and not the narcotic. Solis said he hired a dirty cop from the force to help him stage the bust.
On April 16, 2013, Houston Police seized around 18 kilograms from a minivan. After the drugs were analyzed, it was found to only have one percent of cocaine. Oyervides said he worked with cops on the inside to make the bust happen.
It wasn’t immediately explained how Solis and Oyervides got their hands on the real stuff, but documents reveal they made away with enough to land them their heavy charges. Both men face charges of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 5 kilograms of cocaine.
The men are still in federal custody.
