Paul O’Neal, an 18-year-old Black man from Chicago, was shot and killed by police after a stolen car chase late July. Video released last Friday of the incident reveal that the Chicago Police Department broke several protocols and high-fived each other after allegedly attempting to turn off their body cameras.

According to the investigation of the police video footage by CBS Chicago reporter Charlie De Mar, the police intentionally covered up the shooting incident. Officers endangered others by recklessly shooting into the stolen Jaguar driven by O’Neal and with other officers in harm’s way. In a series of tweets, De Mar heard officers discussing the shooting and there was video evidence of the high-five as well.

CBS Chicago reports:

“We just came from watching Chicago police officers execute Paul O’Neal,” attorney Michael Oppenheimer said. “We just watched the family watch the execution of their loving son.”

“It is one of the most horrific things that I have seen, aside from being in a movie. These police officers decided to play judge, jury and executioner,” he said. “It is amazing to me. It is horrific, it is tragic, that these officers did what they did, and took their street justice in their own hands; the things that they are trying to prevent, or supposed to prevent.”

The reaction to O’Neal’s death and the released  on Twitter has been ongoing since Friday and there are plans for protests and other demonstrations in support of the family. We’ve gathered some of the twitter reactions below and on the following pages. The Chicago Police Department continues has been largely mum about the case aside from saying an investigation is ongoing.
