Odd Future singer-songwriter Frank Ocean has captured the attention of fans with his celebrated 2011 mixtape Nostalgia, Ultra. His Def Jam debut album, Channel Orange, is set for a July 12 release date and Ocean whetted the appetite of listeners last night (June 21) in New York with a preview of the upcoming LP, reports The Boombox.

However, what turned heads was the revelation of a certain elusive member of Southern rap legends Outkast being featured on one of the album’s tracks.

Frank Ocean held his preview party at KMA Studios in Manhattan’s Time Square district, with revelers being treated to the crooner’s expanded vision as he’s now armed with the major label budget. In The Boombox’s report, Ocean has taken elements of what he’s crafted with Nostalgia – boosting them to a new level with better production and stronger songwriting with his debut. Of the songs highlighted, the Earl Sweatshirt-assisted “Super Rich Kids” was a standout as was the previously released “Thinking About You” and the epic “Pyramids.”

Andre 3000 shows up on the track “Pleasure” and while there is audio of the track dating back to last fall of the song that Ocean teased on tour, the official album version is bolstered by the appearance of the mysterious Three Stacks. Little was written about Dre’s verse but if it’s anything like his recent feature work, fans should expect some pyrotechnics.

Hopefully Andre 3000 and Big Boi can work the same magic together in the studio before too long.
