A pregnant woman in Chicago wasn’t going to let having a baby stop her from exercising her right. Galicia Malone, 21, made her way to a local polling location Tuesday (Nov. 6), just before she went to the hospital.

Malone’s contractions were five minutes apart when she headed over to cast her vote at the New Life Celebration Church, early this morning.

“If only all voters showed such determination to vote,” said Cook County Clerk David Orr. “My hat goes off to Galicia for not letting anything get in the way of voting. What a terrific example she is showing for the next generation, especially her new son or daughter.”

President Obama traveled to the city on Election Day to do last minute campaigning. He won the state of Illinois, but the race for president remains close. As previously reported, opponent Mitt Romney  is ahead in the popular vote, despite showing a deficiency in the electoral vote. Ohio and Florida are still up for grabs, the latter of which was the focus of alleged voter intimidation, and long lines.

In a last ditch effort to grab the swing states, the Obama campaign asked voters to stay in line until they have the opportunity to cast their ballots, while Romney was campaigning in the state a day before the election.
