When you’re bringing in millions of dollars, making sure that your taxes are paid should be priority No.1, but it seems like just about everybody in the game fails to take heed of Uncle Sam’s wrath.
Earlier today Lauryn Hill pleaded guilty to charges stemming from her failure to pay taxes on 1.6 million in earnings. While it would be easy to joke about her obvious disregard for the law, the mother of six is just one of many rappers following the “I don’t have to pay my taxes unless I get caught,” moniker.
Peep our list of other big names who attempted to escape the tax man. The income tax struggle is real, America.

Bubba Sparkxx
Things between Bubba Sparkxx and the government got “ugly” when he was exposed for not paying his taxes. In a true show of struggle, Sparxxx contacted TMZ to set the record straight on reports that he owed the state of Georgia roughly $30,000 in back taxes. In actuality, the debt is in the neighborhood of $300,000. Timbaland’s former sidekick hasn’t released an album since 2006, and admitted to being careless with his bills. Shocker.
Nas
Life is good for Nas, but when he was hit with a tax lien things were probably pretty bad. Nasty Nas’ tax bill is a jaw dropping $6.5 million for years of evasion. If that wasn’t enough, the 38-year-old “forgot” to pay $339,000 in taxes, in 2010. In his defense, Kelis was deep in his pockets, getting him for alimony, child support, and her legal fees, so maybe paying his taxes just slipped his mind. Or maybe he needs to fire his accountant. Immediately, if not sooner.
Flavor Flav
Either being a hype man doesn’t pay like it used to, or all those clock chains take a huge bite out of one’s income. No matter the excuse, Flavor Flav didn’t pay his taxes. The Public Enemy member-turned-reality-TV-buffoon owes the government $183,310. On the plus side, Flav doesn’t discriminate when it comes to not paying his bills. He was facing jail time for owing $111,186 in child support, and finally paid the debt earlier this month.
Ja Rule
Ja Rule’s losing streak hit its peak when he was popped for driving with a loaded weapon, only to face a double penalty for not paying his taxes. The Queens native pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges and was sentenced to two years on top of the two years he’s already serving. Somewhere in America, 50 Cent is still laughing at Ja’s bad luck.
Beanie Sigel
Beans has been going through a lot. Aside from being disowned by Jay-Z, the Philly MC admitted to not paying taxes between the years of 2002 and 2004, and was arrested for it in 2009. After several postponements, he will be sentenced on tax evasion charges July 12.
Lil Wayne
Weezy F. Baby (please say the “baby”) has never been good with money. Well, maybe spending money, but not necessarily paying his bills. As his countless producer lawsuits began to pile up, Weezy coughed up the $1.13 million he owed the government… so that he can focus on more important things, like fury neon boots, and skateboarding.
Lil’ Kim
The Queen Bee had her fair share of legal problems, and just when she was back into the swing of her career (after serving a year in federal prison) the tax man came calling. Kimmy Blanco owes over a million in back taxes, a number which was raised after the IRS realized that they forgot to add $86,000 to her original debt from 2009. 2012 has been pretty good for Kim thus far, so she’ll probably be able to square away that debt in no time.
