Newly released footage from Kansas City police revealed that authorities confronted Jovan Belcher the night that he killed his girlfriend, before taking his own life.
The video released Friday (Dec. 7 ) shows cops approaching the Bentley of the Kansas City Chiefs linebacker who was sleeping in his car.
Belcher was found knocked out at around 3 a.m., on the morning of the murder-suicide. After speaking with the three officers, and identifying himself as a Chief’s player, he was sent on his way, but not before being asked if he was drunk.
The 25-year-old father to a 3-month-old daughter then went to his house and killed his girlfriend who was also the mother of his child.
A second dash camera shows an officer arriving at Arrowhead Stadium as Belcher’s coach and general manager tried to discourage him from committing suicide. “I’ve got a sighting from afar. Turn off you sirens,” the officers instructs. “It looks like they’re in negotiation. I need a rifle asap”
The officer approached the scene on foot just before the video cuts off.
Police responded to a call at the Belcher’s home at around 7:50 a.m., where they found the girlfriend, Kassandra Perkins, 22, dead from several gunshot wounds.
