We challenge you to find many MCs that paint street life as vividly as Pusha T. Case in point, the Virginia native recently explained the inspiration behind his My Name Is My Name closer, “S.N.I.T.C.H.,” produced by Pharrell.

“I got a phone call one day from a good friend of mine — I mean somebody I’ve known for years. He’s in jail, and he basically called me to tell me we’re never going to speak again; we’re gonna speak again and never talk to him ever again,” Pusha Ton recalled.

He continued, “He was saying this because he made the decision that he was going to turn over and tell.”

In turn, the street savvy MC called childhood friend and collaborator, Skateboard P, to clarify; he also recommended that Pusha create a song based on the moment. About a week later, the Neptune producer called with the concept for “S.N.I.T.C.H.,” an acronym for “Sorry N***a I’m Trying To Come Home.”

My Name Is My Name releases October 8. Pre-order it via iTunes. Hear Pusha T’s full tale below.
