Derrick Rose can’t catch a break. The Chicago Bulls point guard and former NBA MVP will have surgery on the torn meniscus in his right knee.

Reports ESPN:

Rose reported earlier in the day with right knee pain. An exam and subsequent MRI confirmed the tear.

A timetable for Rose’s return will be determined once he has surgery, the team said.

Rose has been dogged by injuries for the past three seasons.

He tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Game 1 of the 2012 playoffs against Philadelphia. The 2011 NBA MVP missed the entire next season, then played in only 10 games last season before a right knee injury shelved him for the rest of the season.

This is the same injury and the same knee as his last surgery in 2013.

Rose played 46 games this year and looked to be returning to his previous elite level of play. At the moment when his surgery will take place has not been announce and there is no timetable for his return. Best case scenario, he could return this season.

We wish D. Rose a speedy recovery.
