Raekwon has emerged as the Wu-Tang Clan‘s most visible and consistent member in its later years, according to most accounts. The veteran sat with Shade 45’s Sway In The Morning show and dished on inside happenings with the Clan, issues with the A Better Tomorrow album and much more.

Raekwon’s appearance on the show comes ahead of his upcoming sixth studio album, Fly International Luxurious Art, which drops in April. Sway welcomed the Chef to the show and got right to the early days of the Wu-Tang Clan, which the rapper shared in grand detail.

“I remember it like it was yesterday,” said Raekwon. “When you’re coming from somewhere that’s so bad and you’re given an opportunity to do what you wanna do and fulfill your dreams of being in this business, it’s like…we was like kids, we was excited. It was just about getting off the block and trying something.”

Raekwon explained that his crew ditched the street life and chose music as a path, which took them farther than they could have ever imagined. Raekwon also opened up about embarking on his solo venture with his classic debut Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and how he felt he lacked somewhat as an artist in the Clan’s early days.

Rae also explained that a lot of his grimy tales that dazzled audiences at the time were snapshots of things he actually went through or observed as someone close to the streets.
