After months of promoting and building a buzz for their latest original series, FX finally debuted The People Vs. OJ Simpson: American Crime Story last night (Feb. 2). The highly anticipated true story of the infamous double homicide many believe the former NFL superstar (portrayed by Cuba Gooding Jr.) committed that in turn led to the “trial of a century” got the proper TV treatment.

Beginning on the night of June 12, 1994 when the bodies of both Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were found, the series gives us insight into everything that went on behind the scenes of the investigation. But does watching how the trial watched around the world got underway make for good television?

HipHopWired brings you a recap of some of the more interesting aspects the first episode.

1. OJ Simpson Was Sloppy?

The evidence was so obvious one could easily believe that Simpson was set up by the same cops that put Steve Avery away in Making A Murderer. According to this episode Simpson literally left a blood trail from the crime scene to his home along with a witness to his road rage on the way back from the scene of the crime, a bloody glove, and blood stains on his John McCain clean Bronco.

2. He Had A History of Domestic Violence

For all the charm and goofiness Simpson expressed in real life and his Naked Gun movies, The Juice had quite a sour side to him. Records show that Orenthal James Simpson had physically assaulted Nicole Brown Simpson quite a few times during their 7-year marriage and she in turn kept pictures of the bruises just in case she would need them in the future.

3. Marcia Clark

The head prosecutor was hellbent on making sure Simpson paid for his crimes especially after finding out about his past involving domestic violence against Nicole Brown Simpson.

4. Robert Kardashian

The father of the famous reality starlets wasn’t just OJ’s lawyer, they considered themselves close friends. At the time of the crime Robbie was an inactive lawyer who reactivated his license to help out the man who was there for him when he broke up with Kris Jenner. Guilty conscious maybe?

5. Robert Shapiro

Shapiro came off as a man who could’ve easily been a lawyer for Al Pacino’s firm in The Devils Advocate. He did everything in his power to prolong the inevitable and might’ve even been an accessory to OJ’s famous white Bronco escape.

6. OJ Failed The Test

Looking to get any sort of evidence to help prove his innocence, Shapiro had Simpson take a polygraph test which the former running back failed with flying colors. Seriously, son got a negative 24. I thought zero was as low as one could fail any test, but it seems like Simpson went beyond the threshold of human ingenuity.

7. Christopher Darden

Before working with the prosecution looking to put OJ in the box, Christopher Darden used to work under Johnnie Cochran in the Special Investigations Unit where he found his conscious which led him away from the famous defense lawyer’s office.

8. OJ Went To Nicole’s Funeral

Much to the disgust of the people in attendance, OJ made his way to Nicole Brown Simpson’s funeral – with Shapiro in toll – and even went so far as to kiss her on her forehead. coooold blooooded!

9. Kim Kardashian

It was only a matter of time before the famous celebrity socialite family got referenced in this series. It seems like Simpson was the first famous Black athlete to find himself in Kimmy’s bedroom, albeit it was to commit suicide. Luckily her daddy talked the Juice out of splattering himself in her room.

10. The Juice Was Ready To Die

Before attempting to kill himself in Kimmy’s bedroom, OJ had written up a will, a farewell letter to his fans, and an explanation letter to his family.
