The FBI has released images of two men wanted for questioning in the Boston marathon bombings. Authorities reached out to the public Thursday (April 18) in hopes that it will lead them two the suspects. The men can be seen on video surveillance and pictures, walking through the marathon crowd wearing black backpacks. One of the suspects wears a white baseball cap and is seen leaving the bag on the ground seconds before the blast. A second suspect dons a black cap.
Both men are dressed similarly and can be seen walking single file, at one point in the recording.
“Today we are enlisting the public’s help to identify the two suspects,” said Richard DesLauriers, an FBI special agent covering the Boston office. “We consider them to be armed and extremely dangerous.”
DesLauriers warned the public not to take matters into their own hands. “No one should approach them…. Do not take any action on your own.”
At a Congressional hearing earlier today, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano acknowledged that there was a video “that has raised questions,” but wouldn’t go into detail.
Hours after the explosion a Saudi man was incorrectly reported as being a suspect. CNN caught heat for latching on to the stereotype, stating that the person in question was “a dark-skinned male.”
As the investigation moves forward, President Obama attended an interfaith prayer service at Boston’s Cathedral of the Holy Cross, this morning. The president had the crowd on its feet vowing that the city would come back stronger than ever. “We will all be with you as you learn to stand and walk and, yes, run again. Of that I have no doubt, you will run again,” he said. “You will run again, because that’s what the people of Boston are made of. Your resolve is the greatest rebuke to whoever committed this heinous act…. It should be pretty clear by now that they picked the wrong city.”
