Atlanta’s influence on Hip-Hop culture is undeniable. Many have figures have been conduits for the globalization of the southern mecca’s culture, but few are respected like DJ and producer Don Cannon — the new Vice President of A&R of Def Jam Recordings.

The announcement came courtesy of Karen Kwak, the Executive Vice President/Head of A&R, Island Def Jam Music Group. “Don Cannon is exactly the kind of multi-faceted producer and modern-day A&R executive who understands the Def Jam mission and culture and where we are headed for the future,” Kwak said.

Her statements are reaffirmed by the Philadelphia born veteran’s work with artists like Pusha T (we see you “Numbers On the Boards”), Young Jeezy, Nas, Jay-Z, Outkast, Kendrick Lamar and more.

Hear are a few words from Cannon on his new position:

“A music person can only dream about being at Def Jam, the most important  hip-hop destination in the world. I feel I have a cutting edge vision for where the culture and hip-hop are heading and I’m excited to be joining the team.  I’m already working 24/7 to drive the innovation of music forward and I’m confident we’ll land some big successes in the very near future.”
